After a long hiatus, storytimes are returning to Herrick District Library, and both HDL locations are expanding their hours and offerings.

The Herrick District Library’s main location, 300 S. River Ave., will again be open on Sunday afternoons, 1-6 p.m. It will also be open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.

Beginning Sept. 7, the HDL North Branch, 155 Riley St., will be open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. The branch remains closed on Sundays.

Storytimes will be in-person and outdoors at area parks and the HDL North Branch lawn starting mid-September.

“We’ve consulted with some of our fellow area libraries and have been keeping our eye on
recommendations from the health department and the CDC, and have decided the best course of action is to start storytimes outside for now,” HDL says in a statement.

Storytime schedule

Family storytimes will be 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays starting Sept. 14 at the Centennial Park gazebo, 250 Central Ave.; 9:30 a.m. Wednesdays starting Sept. 15 on the lawn of the HDL North Branch, 155 Riley St.; and 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. Thursdays starting Sept. 16 at the Kollen Park bandshell, 240 Kollen Park Drive.

The family storytimes will be appropriate for all ages. The library is offering several programs both in-person and virtually this fall. The library’s website, herrickdl.org, has more information on storytimes and other events.

For those not ready to join in-person storytimes, the library is still offering virtual storytime content weekly on its YouTube channel. The interactive videos are ideal for infants to those 4 years old and their caregivers.

Caregivers can sign up to receive email reminders about storytimes at herrickdl.org/content/hdl-enews-sign-types-emails-youd-receive.
