Hundreds of scholarships available through CFHZ

Are you thinking about expanding your horizons with education? There’s some good news. There are hundreds of scholarships available for local graduating high school seniors, current college students, and adults returning to school. Local residents can apply for scholarships from the Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland Area (CFHZ).

CFHZ awards more than 300 scholarships annually, totaling more than $900,000. 

Students can apply for multiple scholarships at once with an easy-access general application, which is due by 5 p.m. March 1 and can be found online at cfhz.org/apply.

Life-changing

Recipients say the scholarships can be life-changing. Angel Verdusco, for example, used his scholarships to help pay the costs of attending Western Michigan University, where he is majoring in computer science. 

“No words can describe the gratitude I have and the impact it will make on my life. I look forward to the future,” he writes in a thank you note to the foundation’s donors.

In addition to its general scholarships, the Community Foundation invites students to apply for
scholarships requiring separate applications, including the Haworth Skilled Trades Scholarship and the Haworth Diversity Scholarship with Paid Internship. Applications for the Haworth awards are due by 5 p.m. Feb. 14 and can be found online at cfhz.org/apply.

Haworth scholarships

Two $2,000 Haworth Skilled Trades Scholarships are available to the public. To be considered, students must confirm enrollment and plan to continue in a 12- to 24-month certification, an associates of applied arts and sciences (A.A.A.S.), or skilled trade/vocational program in one of the following areas: 

• Carpentry.
• CNC Programming.
• Electrical, Electronics Technology.
• Heating Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technician.
• Industrial Maintenance.
• Machinist.
• Machine Repair.
• Manufacturing Technology.
• Model Maker.
• Plumbing.
• Tool and Die, or Welding.*

Five $2,000 Haworth Diversity Scholarships with Paid Work Experience are available to the public. To be considered, students must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate college or university with freshman, sophomore, or junior status at the time of the application due date.

They also must be available for a 12-week internship (40 hours/week) beginning in May 2021 until August 2021, preferably at Haworth Headquarters in Holland.

• They must be studying in one of the following areas:
• Business.
• Design.
• Engineering.
• Finance.
• Human Resources.
• IT.
• Manufacturing.
• Marketing.
• Sales, or Supply Chain.

They also must be a member of one of the following minority groups: American Indian or Alaskan Native, Asian, Black or African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, Two or More Races.*
