Students can use 1 application to apply for over 100 scholarships

The Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland Area awards nearly $1 million annually to local students pursuing dreams of further education. 

These scholarships are funded by individuals, families and businesses.  

The 2024 general application, which allows students to apply for multiple scholarships at once with an easy-access application, is currently open. The deadline for the application is March 1 at 5 p.m. 

Graduating high school seniors, current college students, and adults returning to school all are encouraged to apply. More information about how to apply, the recommendation process, and  additional guidelines can be found at www.cfhz.org/apply-for-scholarships/. 

The extensive list of scholarship opportunities includes offerings for students interested in a wide variety of careers. 

Josh Abbas, a student at Hope College studying nursing, is a recipient of The Woman’s Literary Club Kate Garrod Post Scholarship. 

“As a nursing major, I have  encountered many challenges along the way,” Abbas says. “The generosity and assistance from the Woman’s Literary Club Kate Garrod Post Scholarship provided me with the financial means to continue pursuing my academic goals and will help me achieve success in my field and contribute to the health care community. I will always be grateful for this opportunity.” 

New scholarships offered

In the past year alone, five new scholarship funds have been established at the foundation. Most of these new opportunities, along with more than 110 others, can be applied for by using the general application available online. They are:

• The Alexa Lindsey Memorial Scholarship, for graduating high school seniors and older students who have been impacted by adoption. 
• The Chad Wolff Memorial Scholarship, for Holland High School graduating seniors with special needs or plans to study special education, as well as student athletes or athletic team supporters. 
• The Franz Family Scholarship for Families Impacted by Cancer, for graduating high school seniors.  
• The Aschbrenner-Spencer Music Scholarship, for graduating high school seniors enrolling at Hope  College and planning to major or minor in music. 
• The Zeeland High School Class of 1966 Scholarship, which supports students through the foundation’s Promise Scholarship program.
