Program cultivates next generation of Allegan County community leaders

The Allegan County Leadership Program (ACLP), an initiative of the Allegan County Community Foundation, is fostering leaders committed to the prosperity of Allegan County by developing leadership skills essential for building sustainable, healthy communities.

“We’ve developed the Allegan County Leadership Program based on continuous discussions with local leaders, businesses, nonprofits, and community members,” says Amanda Chappell, community engagement officer at the Allegan County Community Foundation.

“These conversations underscored a pressing need for stronger leadership within the nonprofit sector and the broader community. Our goal is to equip participants with the skills and networks necessary to sustain these vital organizations.”

This nine-month program offers emerging leaders an understanding of key community issues, challenges, and solutions. ACLP provides guidance, tools, and opportunities to build professional networks and engage in local leadership and board roles.

“By fostering connections and offering exposure to resources, challenges, and networks,” Chappell says, “we aim to enable participants to enhance their leadership skills and contribute significantly to the growth and resilience of our county, particularly within the nonprofit sector.”

Bolstering nonprofits

Chappell emphasizes the foundation’s commitment to supporting local nonprofits through the ACLP.

 “ACCF is deeply invested in the sustainability of our local nonprofits, and we view the ACLP as a critical step in developing the next generation of board members who will continue this mission,” she says. “By equipping community members with leadership skills and connections, we’re ensuring that our nonprofits will thrive and continue to serve the community for years to come.”

The Allegan County Leadership Program is currently accepting applications.
All meetings will be held on the second Thursday of each month, except for Tuesday, March 19. Participants are required to attend all meetings.

“With ACCF’s strong connections within both the for-profit and nonprofit sectors, we can tailor the program to meet the specific needs of our community,” Chappell says. ”We hope to collaborate with other local entities as the program evolves, ensuring it remains a collective effort that continues to build and sustain strong leadership in Allegan County.”
