West Michigan is in full holiday mode this December, with a singing Christmas tree, a festival of trees, a planetarium show, a fancy gala, holiday parades, glimpses of Christmases past, and New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Although parts of Allegan County are known as "affirming and inclusive and celebrating diversity, especially related to queer issues,” says Community Foundation Corporate and Donor Engagement Officer Sara Ruiter, until now there was no financial support for LGBTIA+ causes.
The November calendar is chock full o’ stuff to do. There’s an exhibit-closing event, an annual gathering, a turkey trot, and several tree-lighting events throughout West Michigan.
On tap this month are the Idlewild exhibition, the Pumpkin Train, a gallery stroll, papermaking, a Grammy Award-winning vocal ensemble, and — of course — trick-or-treating. They’re all on the West Michigan calendar for October.

Independence Day is celebrated across the country, and the Lakeshore is no exception. Fireworks will streak across the sky in many Lakeshore communities. July events also include LAUP’s Fiesta, theater, garden walks, and street performances.
If you live along the Lakeshore, you don’t have to travel far to see two professional theater companies. Here’s what Hope Repertory Theatre in Holland and Mason Street Warehouse in Saugatuck are unveiling this season.
There are many things to do along the Lakeshore in May, from Tulip Time in Holland to the annual Kite Festival in Grand Haven. There are also plays, concerts, exhibits, a craft fair, an adventure run and Memorial Day observances.
The Saugatuck Gap Filler Radar was operational from 1958-1968 as part of a continent-wide effort to protect the United States from potential attack during the Cold War. The long-time Saugatuck icon is now recognized on the National Register of Historic Places, a significant step in its preservation.
