Spera Foods founder building ‘hopeful’ health brand

After being introduced to tiger nut in Germany, Hannah Raycraft founded Spera Foods — spera is Latin for hope — to bring the root vegetable to the American food industry. Her entrepreneurial mission has been a challenge, but Raycraft has seen tiger nut grow in popularity since she started her business five years ago.

Entrepreneurs invited to submit ideas for Start Garden competition

The 100 is back. Start Garden’s competition invites aspiring entrepreneurs to submit a video describing their ideas — as many as they like. The 100 finalists chosen in July will need to refine their ideas in preparation for judging at the Demo Day competition in October.

Mission Design & Automation is building a 50,000-square-foot manufacturing facility near Adams Street and 96th Avenue in Holland, with support from Lakeshore Advantage, West Michigan Works!, and others. It’s also adding more than 100 jobs to support the $5 million expansion.
