Music on Main returns to downtown Zeeland

Downtown is "feeling the zeel" again with the return of Music on Main. Spurred by the easing of COVID restrictions last year, the popular event is returning with music, games, and food in the city's social district.

Downtown Zeeland’s open-air, live music event will return this summer with food trucks and yard games.

“Music on Main was a really spontaneous new event series last summer,” Zeeland Marketing Director Abby deRoo says. “with the ability to start gathering again, and the creation of Zeeland’s Social District – Music on Main was just what we needed to begin creating a new normal downtown, post Covid shutdowns.”

The social events were received so well, the city is putting on a repeat performance this summer with music ranging from classic rock to reggae and bluegrass as well as food trucks, yard games, and the city’s new social district in the mix.

The performances will be 6 to 9 p.m. the city’s social district be near Tripelroot on Main Avenue (currently the only social district license holder), which allows patrons to consume alcoholic beverages in specially marked cups while in the outdoor district.

“The recurring dates made it a summer favorite and it quickly became a must-not-miss event,” deRoo says.

This year, a mix of performers will be taking the stage the second and fourth Thursdays in June, July, and August:

June 23 — Dunegrass, folksy , bluegrass-mix of old and new

July 14 — Pretty Rage, female-fronted classic rock band

July 28 — 6 Pak, all-girl band from Grand Rapid started in 1967 and specializes in ‘60s rock ‘n roll

Aug 11 — Cos and Cos, acoustic classic rock from the ‘60s to the 2000s

Aug 25 — Catfish and the Man, quartet with a unique blend of classic rock, blues and Americana

Main Avenue, between Elm and Church streets will be closed to thru traffic during the events. Attendees may bring lawn chairs and picnics or purchase food on site. Alcoholic beverages must be  purchased from a licensed business within Zeeland’s Social District.

Music on Main is made possible through a grant from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council, Holland  Area Arts Council and the several local business sponsors, including Annie Lane Bridal, Diverse Dimensions,  Gentex Corp., VanHuis Real Estate, Zeeland Ace Hardware, Don’s Flowers and Gifts, and Zeeland  Family Dentistry.
