March things to do: St. Patrick’s Day events, youth concerts and art, and tapping sugar maple trees

In addition to usual suspects — music, movies, art, history, and crafts — don’t miss the business expo, home show, garden classes, blood drive, StoryWalk, egg hunts, and more in this month’s calendar.

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

As the weather begins to break, we can venture outdoors a bit more. Ever wonder where that sweet deliciousness you pour over your pancakes comes from? You can find out at one of three tree-tapping demonstrations set for this month. The HEMPY Music Series kicks off our list on March 1 and an Intro to Gelli Painting is the finale on the 31st.

The sap is flowing, and you can see how the syrup for your pancakes comes from the tree to the bottle at these hands-on, family-friendly events. On Saturdays, March 7 and 14, there will be tree-tapping and sap-gathering demonstrations in Holland. There will be another demonstration on Saturday, March 21, at Pigeon Creek Park in West Olive.

From music (from classical to Celtic) and movies, art and history, a home show and a girlfriends’ weekend, crafts and a book festival, as well as St. Patrick’s Day runs, walks, and parades, there’s an abundance of, well, things to do along the Lakeshore this month. Did I mention the dueling pianos, the mother son dance, and egg hunts? March offers a wide variety of things to do in Allegan, Muskegon, and Ottawa counties. This list includes options for everyone, regardless of age, ability, or interest.
