January things to do: 2026 is here, and there’s plenty of fun to be had — indoors and outdoors
January events start off with the annual Hair of the Dog Run in Saugatuck and end with the Black Tie for the Y event in Muskegon. And there are a lot of enjoyable and diverting happenings in between.

It’s a new year, and The Lakeshore has scores of interesting, fun events and activities to put on your calendar this month. Some events end early in January, including the Spring Lake Sparkle and the Muskegon Museum of Art’s Festival of Trees.
There’s a New Year’s Day run in Saugatuck for those looking to start 2026 with some exercise, but plenty of low-key options are also available. Movies, exhibits, live music, and nature programs are on the calendar, while some farmers’ markets and sidewalk sales have moved indoors.
There’s also a mother-son date in Holland, and Winterfest is back in Grand Haven. January offers a wide variety of things to do in Allegan, Muskegon, and Ottawa counties. This list includes options for everyone, regardless of age, ability, or interest.
