December things to do: Light shows, parades, live Nativity, singing tree, Santa train, and shopping
December isn’t just about the holidays, though there are plenty of events that center on celebration. There also are museum exhibits, historic site tours, and New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Another year has flown by or — for some of us — dragged on to its inevitable conclusion. I won’t kid you, there are a lot of holiday events in this month’s calendar.
They range from opportunities to send letters to Santa, elaborate light shows, parades, shopping prospects, and music to the Santa Train, the Singing Christmas Tree, and a new holiday event at the historic VanRaalte Farm in Holland. Performances include “The Nutcracker” and “A Christmas Carol,” as well as a reimagined version of “It’s a Wonderful Life” as a radio play. There’s even a revue with Rockettes-style dancers.
Outside of the ubiquitous holiday hubbub, museums and libraries are still providing space for multicultural college students to tell their stories through art, describing the lived experience of those long considered less-than, reminding us of our history as a nation, and giving children and teens a place to craft and learn. December offers a wide variety of things to do in Allegan, Muskegon, and Ottawa counties. This list includes options for everyone, regardless of age, ability, or interest.
